Summary
Roy Shannon's primary areas of law practice include real estate, civil and commercial litigation, and general business matters.
Roy has an in-depth knowledge of real estate law, offering a range of experience in residential and commercial transactions, land use, residential and commercial leases, representation of real estate licensees (real estate agents and brokers), residential and commercial construction, structural and construction defect claims, condominium transitions, and various common interest community matters (condominium associations, homeowners associations, co-ops).
Roy represents clients in civil and commercial litigation in state and federal courts. His litigation practice includes representation of clients in mediation and arbitration.
Roy's business law practice involves entity formation and transactional matters, as well as those areas of his real estate and litigation practice that are typically involved in representing business entities, for example: land use matters, commercial leases, construction, and all forms of dispute resolutions.
Prior to joining RRBMDK in 2010, Roy was with Alexandria firm of Brincefield Hartnett, P.C. where his practice was devoted to these same areas of law. Before entering private practice in 2005, he held the position of Clerk of the Court at the United State Coast Guard Court of Criminal Appeals where he reported to the Chief Judge and other appellate judges, and assisted on a wide range of matters, including the review of court-martial cases before the Court and review of administrative separation boards.
Roy is a native of the Washington, DC area. While growing up in Maryland, he attended St. John's College High School. He earned a BA degree in finance from Catholic University and his law degree from George Mason University School of Law.
Roy and his wife live in Alexandria with their four young children. They spend their time following their favorite youth sports teams and supporting young performing artists in the areas of ballet and Irish dance.
